Shri Shri Ma Anandamayee Upvan Shiksha Samiti

A view of the school building.

This is a bona-fide charitable institution dedicated to providing education to economically and educationally underprivileged children
of all castes, creeds and religions, particularly from the local slums. It has been running since 1998, now up to class 10.

This school is managed by Shri Shri Ma Anandmayee
Upvan Shiksha Samiti, a society which is registered with the Madhya Pradesh Government since 1998 and bears Charitable status.
As such the income of the school is exempted (under article 80G of
Indian Income Tax Act) from the Income Tax and Indian donors get Income Tax relief up to 50%.
It is also authorised to receive foreign currency because it has
an FCRA certificate (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act 1976)
granted by the Government of India.

The school is affiliated to the State Government up to class 8, and the curriculum is taught according to the State Government.

Presently there are 550 children in the school and they are provided with free education including text books, uniforms (Sweaters in winter),midday meal, health checkup etc.

 Background of the children:-

The children have no social status. In 1998, in the beginning, only 7 children were enrolled. Active counseling of local parents by the teachers began to bring students in.
The family background is illiterate and financially very poor. There would be quarreling between the parents, and alcohol issues, which diverts the childrens' minds from studies. The privilege of free education, including books, meal, uniforms, and regular health check-ups are all inducements to motivate the parents to agree to send their children to school.
Class and home work is overseen by the teachers as nobody helps
them at home. To reduce the absenteeism, teachers are sent to
children's homes and keep persuading their parents to send them to school.
If not at school some children would be rag pickers or beggars. Some children have a criminal background, or a parent has a criminal record.

Finances.

Annual expenditure is Rs 30 lakhs(Rs3,000,000/-)

Annual expenditure for each child is Rs5,000/-

The school building is yet to be completed, and we are yet to have a library.

The Future.

We need new class rooms for classes 9 to 12.
In order to give the children a chance to be self-employed we are planning to open a Vocational Institute so that they learn work-related skills like being a fitter, motor winding, TV repair, Fridge repair etc.

So we looking for funds to complete the building and library.(Rs30 lakhs) and a new building for class 9 to 12.(Rs80 lakhs).

Survey Report 1.Bhopal is one of the branches of the "Sangha" working with the down-trodden in our society. We are running a school, for slum children, since 18 years. Most of the children that we cater for are rag-pickers and have criminal backgrounds. Most of them are also addicted to alcohol , tobacco consumption and other bad habits. After identifying these children we do our best to give them a better quality life which covers activities like giving them free books, copies, uniform, midday meal, health checkups and all other facilities which they require. We have a very good team for the uplift of these children. We have more than 80 years of experience in the field of Social Work. In the recent past Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited our Varanasi Branch and praised all our activities undertaken for the upliftment of women and children. 2.Methodology of the Survey: Near Bairgarh Ashram there is a vast slum area, with a population of about 3 lakhs; the areas are (1) Buda Kheda Slum (2) Rahul Nagar (3) Sanjay Nagar (4) Manjhi Nagar (5) BehtaGaon (6) Machti Market area. We have gone to these slum areas and with the staff from the organisation have surveyed more than 300 families to find out the problems associated with the development of children in these areas. Some of the finding s of the study are as under: 3.Findings (1)Buda Kheda: The population of this particular slum area is about 45,000; the male-female ratio is about 60/40. (i)Socio-economic: This area is very much affected by poverty, almost all men barely get employment 15 days in a month and every family has at least 5 or 6 children. Their economic and social condition is very poor as all are addicted to drink and their mother has to go to do household work like a maid servant, as well as running their family. (ii)Education: due to their father being addicted to drink, all their children are not going to school, they steal and have other bad habits. (iii)Nutrition: the children have nutrition and health problems such as malnutrition. (iv)Problems: As they are not going to school and there is no proper guidance there are drop-out problems, addiction to drink, drug abuse etc. Need of the Project:-Education is very important for an individual’s success in life. Education teaches children skills that prepare them physically, mentally and socially for the world of work in later life. Education is generally seen as the foundation of society which brings wealth, social prosperity and political stability. Higher education helps in maintaining a healthy society which generates health care professionals, educational health care, consumers and maintaining a healthy population. Education is a major aspect of development of modern society since if there is a shortage of educated people further progress will be prevented. Governments should pay serious attention to educating and supporting economically and morally all over the country. Due to lack of facilities in the area or due to the financial incapacity of the poor people, there are around 10-20000 students who are willing to join good schools but cannot. Project Objectives:- Our mission is to provide good environment for their better life to provide an effective framework for student to learn a systematic, disciplined and properly managed life. This will include providing a “working children educational School“ in their own place so that they can come and join freely where all the facilities for the education of poor/backward students will be available:- a)To provide free education when all tuition fees and other charges will be covered. b)To make all the books regularly required for education available free of cost. Also for those students who cannot come to school. c)To provide all facilities like books, photocopies, uniforms, midday meal, health check-up and other needs to the children d)To educate children in the benefits of a disciplined and systematic life e)To provide specialized education using modern techniques. 4. To provide regular follow-up care and check up and medical health facilities to all students. 5. To conduct regular seminars and counseling 6. To help with facilities for the area mentioned earlier.
