MOTHER as Revealed to Me

Bhaiji was the foremost disciple of Sri Ma, and has written, not a biography, but a little sketch, which introduces a few facts of his own direct experience to show how she opened up a fountain of life in his own almost parched-up soul (his own words). This book has a mysterious power to invoke Sri Ma's presence, like no other, and this must result from that very close connection between Bhaiji and Sri Ma, his all-in-all.

Her LIFE and WISDOM

It is said that the universe has its origin in love, and the chaos is systematised into the cosmos through the bond of love. There is love between fire and air, between earth and water; without this love neither heaven, nor earth, nor the nether world would have originated at all. There is love between heaven and the skies, between heaven and earth, between hell and the nether world in which it lies, and thus are the three worlds supported in love. There is love between the sun, the moon, the planets and the stars and in love they are all fixed into the sky above. There is love between the sea and its water, between the moon and the night and the sun and the day; - the tree is fixed to the earth by its roots, the black bee is attached to the lotus, fish is bound to the water, man is bound to the woman - and all in love. The body is in love with the mind and the mind with the vital prana. In love does the mother conceive the child, in love does the earth hold fast the root of the tree, in love does the tree hold fast the branches and the flowers and fruits, in love does the fruit accumulate juice in its kernel - thus is the whole creative process supported in love.

Mahamahopadhyaya Pandit Gopinatha Kaviraja has said: "We know very well that in every stage of Her life, Mother played Her part admirably well consistently with the laws of propriety befitting Her role, and yet behind all these appearances She retains the self-same and eternally self-revealed consciousness. It is, therefore, a very difficult task to try to describe Mother Anandamayee as She really is. She has appeared differently to different persons and even if these differences are contradictory, we can quietly accept them knowing fully well that in a higher synthesis even contradictories may meet together. These differences need not be obliterated in the interest of a particular viewpoint. Naturally we do not, and cannot, know all the phases of Mother's life; and that the little we know of a particular phase, we know imperfectly. She is too near us to be seen in Her proper perspective and as for ourselves, we too shall have to rise up to the height and attain to broad outlook in which an attempt may be made to study Her properly. What is really needed is to feel that She is Mother and we are Her children and that as mere children, we cannot be expected to know Her as She is but only as She shows Herself to us in response to our cravings. It really becomes us to behave as infants crying out in the night and invoking Mother with an inarticulate language for Her actual descent and benediction."

Words of Sri Sri Anandamayi Ma

This book contains a selection from Sri Anandamayi Ma's replies to oral questions, recorded at meetings of large and small groups. They have been arranged, not in chronological order but, as far as possible, according to subjects. The simpler ones have been put first. They deal with meditation, the spiritual path and Self-realisation; with a great variety of problems - practical, philosophical, and metaphysical as encountered by seekers after Truth at various stages of their quest.

In her replies SRI MA responds exactly to the inquirer's capacity to understand, his specific disposition and line of approach. She throws light on every question from many different standpoints. In fact, in her utterances we find united every creed and philosophy, every school of thought and method of yoga, -- yet she stands above and beyond them all.

The present work brings together some papers from a number of writers, Indian and Non-Indian, on what each of them thinks about Mother Anandamayi and of the reaction of each to the influence of Her superb personality. All these writers claim to be among Her devout admirers, and though some of them may have known Her for a short time only, others have been privileged to be in more or less close touch with Her for several years. What they have written is naturally interesting, being a sincere expression of their views, and for some it has indeed been a frank out-pouring of the heart. It seems, however, that all of them have been deeply impressed with Mother's sanctity, wisdom and love, and greatly influenced by the extraordinary qualities of Her life and character; although none of them have anything to say, except incidentally, on the mystery of Her Being and Personality.

This is as it should have been. For it hardly becomes us, children as we are, to analyse and dissect our Mother, nor is it possible for us, crying ourselves for light in the darkness of night, to shed any light on Her. It is evident that an attempt of this kind, even if it were made, is bound to be a failure.

SVAKRIYA SVARASAMRITA translated by Br Kumari Chandan Puranacharya from the Bengali 0f Swami Virajananda

SVAKRIYA SVARASAMRITA VOL 1

SVAKRIYA SVARASAMRITA VOL 2

SVAKRIYA SVARASAMRITA VOL 3

Swami Virajananda had originally written these volumes in Bengali, taking the material from Sri Ma's own lips. The first two volumes are an introduction to the subsequent publications. Volume 1 is about Ma's ancestral lineage, Her parents and Her homes, along with a discussion about Her birth. The second volume depicts Her entire childhood Lila, ending with Her entry into Grihastashram (Life of the Householder) including a portrayal of Her unique seva there. In Volume 3 Ma reveals Her Svarupa in the context of Her starting Harinam. Throughout this volume, there is this revelation that in all the objectives of all sadhanas it is Bhagavan only in those forms.
